First time staying in Brooklyn having always done so on Manhattan on previous trips to NYC. We loved the location of the hotel and Williamsburg in general. Hewes St subway (J/M) is just 100yds away so you can be on Manhattan within 10 mins of leaving the hotel - we also returned a couple of times via Lorimer St on the L line, which is just a 10 minute walk in the other direction. The hotel was modern, secure, clean, bright with a funky vibe which we liked. We had two rooms for our party of 4 (2 adults/2 older teens) which were well equipped, clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our rooms were at the front of the building on the third floor and the street was fairly quiet so we always slept well and it was great to return from the wonderful craziness of Manhattan each day to the relative calm of Williamsburg. The hotel staff we encountered were always professional, friendly and helpful and provided us with bottles of water and coffee pods on request throughout our stay. It is true that there are not many restaurants as such in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but there are plenty of the usual neighbourhood stores and delis. We particularly liked the delightful Nyla Cafe just one block north of the hotel where the coffee was excellent and you also could find a light breakfast while planning your NY sightseeing for the day. The main area of bars and restaurants in Williamsburg is only a 10-15 minute walk west, however, where there are a plethora of high quality dining options, as well as the waterfront (Domino Park etc) where the views across to Manhattan on the sultry Summer evenings were stunning. We never felt unsafe in the area and even walked back from the Williamsburg waterfront (as well as DUMBO) late evening a few times, and loved exploring these districts and the different communities that live in them. We wanted a local, but well connected, Brooklyn neighbourhood for our trip which 42 Hotel provided. We'll be back!

Overall, very pleased with our experience staying in this place! Absolutely would book again when returning to NYC. We were a little worried about the stay prior to arrival due to negative Google reviews. However, price point and accessibility to public transit were our priorities for this trip trying to squeeze in so much sight seeing in a few days; Hotel 42 did not disappoint us at all!!! The close proximity to two subway stations and several bus stops allow easy access for travelers utilizing public transit. The neighborhood was recommended by locals and friends that have stayed in Brooklyn. Felt safe even being outside through the wee hours of the morning. Very affordable rate for the area and NYC in general. Check-in was quick and easy, deposit required upon arrival. We appreciated the aesthetics of the hotel and thought that the room was great. Overall, pretty clean and comfortable. Not perfectly spotless, but this was not an issue for our group. There was some noise from cleaning staff and other guests but that is par for the course when staying in any hotel; this also did not impact our group at all - we slept great! Everyone was right when they said the mattress was very comfortable! Being able to open a small window for fresh air was a nice and unexpected touch! The service we did receive from staff was excellent. They were very courteous, kind, and accommodating. The neighborhood provided all the food/drinks/goods we needed. A well-stocked market and Walgreens about a quarter mile down.

Very nice hotel in a strange neighborhood. This hotel is not near downtown Williamsburg. It's more of a residential neighborhood. There aren't many restaurants near the hotel. There are 2 subway lines within a block or two of the hotel that make trips into lower Manhattan and Queens very easy. There's also a bus stop at the far end of the street. The room was a good size, very clean with large windows. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean. The shower had enough hot water for two people to shower without the water getting cold. There was a wardrobe where you could hang up your clothes. There was also a safe for valuables. They had a complimentary bottle of wine, water, and chocolate in the room, which was a nice touch. The staff was very friendly. They gave us some good restaurant recommendations. Check-in and check out were very easy. The hotel is about 25 minutes from LaGuardia via taxi.

Bryan

The staff was really friendly and welcoming from tips where to head to eat, to storing our luggage to calling an Uber for the airport. The rooms (we stayed 3 nights and 2 nights in the one week while heading off over the weekend) were very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location was extremely handy with two subway stations a very short walk away and a bus stop 2 min up the road. Lively Williamsburg downtown only 10-15 min walk away. A nice touch was the free little bottle of wine, chocolates and bottles of water in the room. The motorised black out blinds were great to help us get over the jet lag.

After reading some of the comments I went to the hotel with concerns, but everything was of the highest standard, proximity to the subway very big plus! To manhattan road takes max 15 min. Bed very large and comfortable, room clean, staff very friendly and helpful. A big plus is free to leave your luggage at the hotel after check out. I had concerns about the additional hidden fees that some people talked about in their reviews, but I was informed of all the additional costs as soon as I arrived at the hotel ($200 deposit, $20 per night tourist fee, and in-room beverages coffee, tea and water).
